Ed Rishell was a Master Gardener of Prince William volunteer who provided exemplary community service, leadership and assistance to VCE staff, other Master Gardener volunteers and the community.
Ed consistently went above and beyond in his volunteer efforts. Soon after graduating in 2009, Ed was asked by Virginia Tech to serve on a committee to review improvements to the 2011 Pest Management Guide, which is a resource that is used by staff, volunteers and landscape professionals statewide. He also authored the current peer-reviewed publication on composting used statewide by Virginia Tech.
Due to Ed’s dedication to the Master Gardener Volunteer program, MGPW established a scholarship, in his honor, for continuing education to offer financial assistance to attend College Gardener College.
Master Garden College is an annual four-day continuing education event conducted by Virginia Tech and Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE). Hours in the class contribute to the continuing education requirement for Master Gardeners. MGPW may offer a scholarship to assist a Master Gardener who has financial need with a portion of class registration fees.
This scholarship furthers our tax-exempt purposes of education and charity by providing needed financial assistance to cover a portion of the registration fees that can facilitate attendance at this unique opportunity for extensive continuing education. The amount of the scholarship funds to be awarded will be estimated in the MGPW Annual Budget.
The scholarship is funded entirely from income from fundraisers and donations and is open to all Master Gardeners.
