JUST A REMINDER, OUR FIRST MEETING IS THIS COMING FRUDAY, May 18.
We are scheduling our first AAH Ambassador Get together on Friday, May 18 - 10 am -12 noon. Room 102 VCE Office - Sudley North Government Building. We plan to continue these on a monthly basis at different times (morning, afternoon, evening) to accommodate the variety of schedules and give everyone the opportunity to attend occasionally.
Our special guest will be Terry Liercke, President of ASNV. He would like to start meeting with Prince William County AAH Ambassadors as often as possible. Terry will discuss ASNV's Native Plant Starter kit and answer questions about the program. George Alapas will present a short segment of the 5/18 meeting on a bird and habitat requirements. George is an accomplished birder.
I also plan to discuss offering a workshop at the Teaching Garden. One thing that became apparent during our initial mentored visits is that Master Gardeners already know how to do site visits (actually, they all knew more than I did). I have discussed this with Nancy Berlin and Terry Liercke and they both agree that I may offer a course that focuses on the process. I shall be offering a couple of these sessions for folks who are interested at the Teaching Garden. This doesn't stop you from working with an Ambassador to get certified via a mentored visit; however, it's another alternative. If any of our Certified AAH Ambassadors are interested in leading or supporting one of these workshops, let me know. I plan to lead at least one.
Please bring your suggestions, criticisms, suggestions and ideas to this meeting. I really don't mind criticism as long as it comes with a suggestion or a volunteer to address an issue.
NEWS:
I've created a Spreadsheet (i know, people are saying "finally") listing our Certified Ambassadors & candidates, Certified Properties, and Properties that are in process or that requested an AAH Consult. Please look it over, make any corrections, and think about following up on any "unclaimed" requests for an AAH Consult. Web Administrator's Note: You must be logged into the system to view the Spreadsheet. You may view it here.
I've also attached a "cheat sheet" (I sent it out earlier) from ASNV HQ that lists ASNV AAX Sanctuary Species. I taped mine to the back of my clipboard.
Suggestions are welcome. Just write them on a Vente cup of hot Starbucks coffee and hand them to me. Just kidding... email works also. If I "missed somethng", go ahead and "reply all" to share the news.
